WAPCAS Hands Over E-Learning Platform to Ghana Police Service in Milestone Ceremony

In a landmark ceremony held on December 21, 2023, at the Crystal Palm Hotel in Accra, WAPCAS achieved a significant milestone by reinforcing its collaboration with the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in the critical domains of HIV/AIDS, STIs, and Human Rights interventions for Key Populations (KPs). The event featured the formal handover of an E-learning platform to the Police Administration, a strategic initiative aimed at providing enhanced access to crucial materials on HIV/AIDS, STIs, and Human Rights within the GPS. The primary beneficiaries of this initiative are recruits undergoing training at various Police institutions.

Prominent figures in attendance included Mrs. Comfort Asamoah-Adu, the Executive Director of WAPCAS, Mr. Kofi Mawuena Diaba, the Program’s Manager of WAPCAS, the Senior Administrator, along with other WAPCAS staff. Distinguished guests also included DCOP Dr. Samuel Otu-Nyarko, Chairman of the Police Technical Working Group, Dr. Daniel Afriyie, Director General of Human Resources at the Police Administration, and DCOP Alhaji Iddi Seidu, Director of ICT at the National Headquarters. Noteworthy representation was observed from the GHS, GAC, NACP, CCM, CHRAJ, and WHO.

In her welcome speech, Mrs. Comfort Asamoah-Adu expressed gratitude to consultants Dr. Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah and Dr. Gideon Mensah Amaape for their supervision of the platform's development. She extended appreciation to the Police Technical Working Group, chaired by DCOP Dr. Samuel Otu Nyarko, and its dedicated members for their instrumental role in bringing the E-learning platform to fruition, made possible through funding from The Global Fund (TGF).

Upon receiving the platform on behalf of the Police Administration, the Director General of Human Resources of the Ghana Police Service conveyed gratitude to WAPCAS for the E-learning platform. He also acknowledged TGF for their invaluable support and commitment to projects fostering improvements in public health and safety globally. The Director General highlighted the platform as a testament to the robust collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and WAPCAS, emphasizing its potential to keep officers abreast of the latest developments in HIV and Human Rights. He assured that the platform would be utilized to its fullest potential to equip officers for professional and dedicated service to their communities.

Dr. Samuel Otu-Nyarko, Chairman of the Police Technical Working Group, expressed appreciation for WAPCAS's commitment, urging the Ghana Police Service to carry forward the mission enabled by the E-learning platform. He emphasized the platform's significance as a powerful tool for the service and encouraged its effective utilization.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Comfort Asamoah-Adu conveyed elation for the successful completion and handover of the platform to the Police Administration. She informed participants that, through the CCM, the Global Fund has granted WAPCAS the opportunity to continue the KP intervention in the next cycle (GC7) from 2024-2026. Mrs. Asamoah-Adu underscored the commitment to strengthening the collaboration between WAPCAS and the GPS in the future.

The ceremony, skillfully facilitated by the Program’s Manager of WAPCAS, Mr. Kofi Mawuena Diaba, marked a pivotal moment in advancing knowledge and awareness within the Ghana Police Service, contributing significantly to the realms of HIV/AIDS, STIs, and Human Rights.
