HIV and STI services for key and vulnerable populations across Ghana, contributing to epidemic control and the fast-track 95-95-95 targets.
With support from the Global Fund grant, WAPCAS Plus is implementing HIV and STI intervention services for key and vulnerable populations in Ghana. The WAPCAS Plus Global Fund Key and Vulnerable Population Grant Cycle Seven is part of the Global Fund support for HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis to Ghana, secured through the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) under the programme titled Scaling Up Quality HIV Care Cascade through Community Engagement and Addressing Human Rights Barriers.
WAPCAS Plus’ overall goal is to contribute to epidemic control and help Ghana achieve the fast-track 95-95-95 targets.
The grant is designed for people who experience heightened risk of HIV and STI exposure and may face barriers to timely, confidential, and non-judgemental services.
Implementation focuses on major towns and cities, including Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Sunyani, Koforidua, Techiman, Ho, Nkwanta South, and communities across the Upper West, Upper East, and Northern regions.
As Principal Recipient, WAPCAS Plus provides programme leadership, coordination, and oversight, working through five Sub-Recipients and two Implementing Partners to deliver services at community level.
WAPCAS Plus, its Sub-Recipients, and Implementing Partners use a peer-to-peer strategy: members of key and vulnerable populations are identified, trained, and resourced to return to their communities and provide services to their peers.
This model strengthens community acceptance of programme messages by using trusted peer networks to encourage practical, evidence-based behaviour change.
